A Better Whipped Body Butter Part 1

Until recently, my body butter recipe couldn't have been any easier to make.  You may even remember my previous post with detailed instructions.

Of course, there's a catch!  Coconut Oil is incredibly sensitive to temperature fluctuations.  At my house, this means it melts in the Summer, and hardens in the Winter.  Even if you only let your house get as cold as 67 degrees (ours gets as low as 61 at night), it's too cold to maintain the fluffy, whipped suspension.

There had to be a better way to produce a body butter, that was just as whipped and fluffy as the lone Coconut Oil, but maintained itself (even during transport to various local vendors who carry Caught Red Threaded).

After tinkering in the kitchen, I came up with a recipe that will knock your socks off!  Not only does it whip up beautifully, it maintains that moisture cloud to temps as low as 40 degrees (maybe lower, but I haven't tested beyond that).

First thing to do is gather your supplies:

  • Medium Sauce Pan
  • 1 C. Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 C. Shea Butter
  • 3 Tbs. Jojoba Oil
  • 2 Tbs. Vitamin E Oil
  • Essential Oils
    • I chose:
      • 10 drops Lavender
      • 10 drops Sweet Orange
  • Mixing Bowl
Add all ingredients to a medium sauce pan.  Over low heat, melt all together, stirring occasionally.

Once all melted, transfer to a mixing bowl, and place in the refrigerator.  Allow to cool until hard (4-6 hours, or overnight).  It's worth noting that I doubled the recipe.  Winter weather has arrived, we all have skin lacking moisture, and it's impossible to make too much of this (currently) liquid gold.

You can see it isn't completely solid yet.

It's as solid as it will ever be after an overnight in the fridge.

To continue this recipe, please read more here.  This blend doesn't stay golden for long.  It will soon be a silky, white cloud ready and waiting for you to use or give to someone special.
