Peaceful Earth Tutorial and The Importance of Health and Wellness: A Midwestern Perspective

Disclaimer:  If you want to skip ahead to the tutorial, it's at the end of this post.  I promise to tell a good story, and do recommend you read it, but I also understand that we all have limited time, and you might need to make another run to the grocery store to pick up more Kale- only the 4th time this week you've run out.  It is the start to a new year, after all.

If you aren't familiar with Iowa City, let me shed some light on its significance.  Also known as the City of Literature, Iowa City is bursting at the seams with literary culture.  Not everyone is an author, but in the (over) educated heartland of America, Iowa City is home to short-story writers and poets alike, self-help gurus, M.D.'s who are published in the mainstream, and even children's book authors.

Iowa City is full of culture, in a (mostly) otherwise bland state.  There's the Iowa City Arts Festival, the Iowa City Book Festival, the Iowa City Jazz Festival, Sand In The City, and more found here.  Whether you are a student at the University of Iowa, or a family of 4, the Iowa City area has something to offer anyone.  As of late, it's also been a place for retirees to settle in for their golden years.

As for weather, Iowa City is classically Midwest: brutally hot & humid summers, winters that see arctic blasts and endless snow drifts.  We are land-locked, and have a film festival aptly named (click here to check out the Land Locked Film Festival), but are fortunate enough to have the Iowa River flowing from North to South, through the center of Iowa City.  If you have a child in the Iowa City Community School district, you are very familiar with the East-West division.

I could go on for hours sharing with you the wonders that make Iowa City the wonderful place I call home, but if you aren't from here, and haven't had the pleasure of living here, it will just be words on the page for most of you.  But, it's important to know that regardless of where you reside, your area is likely to have significant events happening throughout the year as well.  Seek them out.  Visit your local library for resources, the Recreation Center in your community, or even your place of worship.  Anywhere people gather.  It's often in these group activities, that we find a balance in our lives.  Whether you want to learn how to knit, or would like to share allergy friendly recipes, there's something out there for everyone.

With the new year well underway, most of us have made (and possibly quit already) resolutions.  Often times, these ambitions include living a healthier lifestyle in the coming year.  Who doesn't want to be more fit, eat foods that our body recognizes, and discover that our minds aren't stagnant but forever evolving?  Iowa City isn't the always perfect, idealized place on a pedestal it often boasts to be.  It certainly has it's drawbacks, but it is also wonderful in so many other ways.  There's a wooden plaque hanging on the wall next to me that reads, "Midwest Is Best", and I have to agree.  Having spent my whole life living in the Midwest, it's often hard to imagine leaving.  People are kind and courteous towards one another.  When I walk the dog, it's not uncommon to engage in conversation with complete strangers.  Yes, this act makes teaching children about stranger danger that much more of a challenge.

For Caught Red Threaded, 2015 is an extension of the expansion that began in the final months of 2014.  Blogs will continue to roll out weekly, and new tutorials will be posted.  Products that promote health and wellness, designed for home and body, this is what it's all about.  We all want to live up to our fullest potential, and why shouldn't 2015 be the year you reach new heights?!

Peaceful Earth is a blend of Lavender and Frankincense.  Lavender is most commonly known for its relaxing qualities.  Here's a list of why lavender is so incredible.  It's nearly impossible to name all the benefits of Frankincense.  Some of the beneficial properties of Frankincense include its ability to ease discomfort, elevate the mood, promote a normal inflammatory response,  calm the system, and support kidney function.  Jojoba, Caught Red Threaded's carrier oil of choice, is the only oil in nature that mimics the oils we make on our own skin.

To make your own Peaceful Earth Roller Blend, gather the following materials:

  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Frankincense Essential Oil
  • Jojoba (or other carrier) Oil
  • 1/3 ounce Roll-On Bottle (click here to purchase)

The following recipe is for 1 Roll On Bottle:
  • 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 4 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
  • Top with Jojoba (or other carrier) Oil

When Lavender and Frankincense are combined, they create a grounding effect.  There are other benefits:
  • acne control
  • calm spirit
  • natural disinfectant/anti-microbial
  • immune enhancement
  • headache relief
The wonders that come about when combining these two powerful oils are not unlike the effects of living in Iowa City.  When your peers are all highly educated, they tend to lead crusades of mindful empowerment.  Let Peaceful Earth take you on a journey to a better awareness of yourself, and all things around you.
